My musical journey
I learned my first three guitar chords at the age of 9 years, from my mother, started piano lessons from the age of 12 years, passed with distinction Grade 4 from the Trinity College of London while studying in class 9, in Mount Hermon School, Darjeeling. Was involved in inter-school, inter-house music competitions, and school choir all throughout my school. However, my interest in music stopped after pursuing science and further on, Dental studies from Govt, Dental College, and St. George Hospital, Mumbai, India.
In July 2011, moved to Kathmandu Nepal along with my Husband Gyan Lama, and our firstborn son Avishai, who was 3 months then. However, in 2015, after the major earthquake, we spent 3 months in my native land-Nagaland (Northeast India) where I got the chance to take a one-month crash course in Vocals and since then my love for singing has only gotten stronger.
With every little knowledge that I have about music(keyboard, vocals, guitar) it is my utmost joy, privilege, and responsibility to impart, instill, invest and encourage musical skills into my own children as well as the lives of every precious child/adult and to see to it that no one is robbed from his or her gift of music for every individual is born with a musical instrument – your vocal cords and the greatest gift of life is music. Let no one and nothing keep you away from your Life’s musical journey.
At Musickotha we believe it’s our great privilege and responsibility to use the gift of music in each individual, to better the community, country, nation, and our world. Hence 10% of musickotha’s income is used to sponsor children who would otherwise not be able to learn music, and another 10% to help people who have experienced Hansen’s disease.
Musickotha aims to bring its individuals to a place of steady confidence and freedom through their musical journey.
Kotha: means Room in Nepali. Musickotha birthed out of the COVID19 lockdown, wherein the best and safest place is our own room.
In support of I.D.E.A Nepal, an organisation that works with people experienced with Hansen's disease, an intimate evening of recitals, performances and food(on purchase)awaits you on 11th February. Lets celebrate the gift of love together.
